FREMONT, CA: Using technology in the classroom can make life as a teacher easier while also increasing student excitement and engagement with lessons. There are several ways technology can be used in the classroom to enhance learning. Below are examples of how to use technology in the classroom to improve learning; consider the following:
1. Gamified Education

Learning can and should be enjoyable, and using technology for gamified learning in the classroom can help achieve that goal.
2. Digital Outings
Taking digital field trips is an increasingly popular, useful, and cost-effective tool for teachers looking for new ways to use technology in the classroom. For example, Google Streetview and similar apps allow students to virtually explore parks, forests, and even national and international landmarks from the comfort of their classroom.
3. Include Social Media
Create a Facebook group for the class where teachers can post discussion topics or create unique classroom Twitter hashtags that students can use to discuss lessons or ask questions!
4. Gather Student Feedback
Use online polls and surveys to conduct daily or weekly check-ins with students to get their feedback on lessons and address any lingering questions or concerns. Extend the use of Twitter hashtags by having students tweet their feedback and queries using the hashtags.
5. Developing Digital Content
Students can showcase their creative talents and learn by creating digital content related to what they are learning.
6. Making Use of a Classroom Calendar
Create an online shared calendar for your classroom using Google Calendar or a similar program to post important updates. Post assignment due dates and classroom events (such as field trips and guest speakers) in a central location that is easily accessible to both teachers and students.
7. Online Activities for Students Who Complete Their Work Early
Set up learning stations to encourage and support students who prefer to work at their own pace. Instead of waiting for other students to catch up or for class to end if a student completes an assignment early, students can extend and enhance their learning by visiting a learning station and watching videos, playing learning-based games, or exploring other online activities related to their education.
